Writing is what I do, most every day. In an ordinary sense, you can see me at a desk, reading and typing, scribbling notes, drawing diagrams and maps. You might think that's all there is to it.
But there is another aspect to the entire process which I am forever trying to place. Sometimes I think I am submerged, underwater. Other times I think I become chthonic, existing underground. In this space, I swim, travel, search and even wrestle.
I know when I finish a piece of writing, I come back. So I must have been somewhere.
For a long time, I have wanted to write about writing. Now is a good time. At our TANGLE OF LIFE website www.tangleoflife.org you are invited to join in yourself and write. Every post puts up a question. The question is based on the content but asks of you as a writer to respond rather than research. Even a few sentences or a couple of paragraphs gets you started.
I think it's important for everyone to develop their own responses to science and nature writing that they read. The process of reply further develops an understanding in you, the commentator. It also gives me, the writer, some feedback about the impact of a work, its strengths and weaknesses.
An internet blog like this one allows us both to take this a step further. We can have an extended open conversation about writing in this shared space.
Welcome.
